Temporary traffic control (TTC) devices warn or guide road users (drivers, bicyclists, pedestrians) of changing conditions to roads, pedestrian pathways and bikeways. These changing conditions include construction or maintenance work zones, lane or sidewalk closures, and emergency traffic incidents.
Our foundational TTC devices, our drums, channelizers, barricades, serve drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists. Yet, we have always considered worker safety a fundamental priority in the design of those devices.
We launched RoadQuake 2F Temporary Portable Rumble Strip in 2014 to protect drivers and their passengers, but soon thereafter concentrated on ancillary RoadQuake products that protect workers.
Designed to reduce crashes and save lives, RoadQuake 2F alerts drivers to changing road conditions, like work zones. Drivers and passengers who traverse a rumble strip array feel the vibrations caused by the vehicle traveling over the strips; they also hear the familiar "bumpety-bump, thumpety-thump" sound of the vehicle crossing the strips.
While we would consider RoadQuake 2F TPRS a device that improves driver safety in work zones, workers themselves benefit, too. Workers can often hear the sounds of vehicles traversing strips, and consider the sound a warning of approaching traffic.
The ancillary RoadQuake products that followed protect workers who deploy and remove RoadQuake. We designed these ancillary products with two goals: reduce the amount of time workers need to manually deploy and retrieve RoadQuake, and reduce the possibility of soft tissue damage to workers that may result from handling RoadQuake.

With these products, we achieved both safety goals in a relatively short, four-year time span. Workers are safer because of them.
